More About Reiki

How does Reiki work?
If your Reiki energy is low, then you’re more likely to get sick or feel stressed; if your life force energy is high, you’re more able to be happy and healthy. Reiki is a non-invasive technique to promote healing by releasing congestion or blockages from energy centers in order to enable a good flow of energy in the body. With free-flowing Reiki energy, your body can access its natural healing abilities, and you can begin your journey to wellness.

What will I feel during a Reiki session?
Some of the common sensations are the feeling of heat, cold, vibrations, tingling, pulsations, numbness, sleepiness, seeing colors or visions, and the feeling of extra hands on the body. Some feel nothing at all but have an overall feeling of calmness and grounding. Even if you don’t feel any immediate effects from your session, rest assured Reiki is working and the effects of healing will become apparent in the following days or treatments.

What is a Reiki healing response?
Some folks feel energized, relieved, calmed or peaceful after their session. Other folks may experience a healing response, where the individual needs to release the blocked energy. Emotional releases that show up as crying, sadness or fatigue are your body’s way of letting go of lower energies that were keeping you stuck. Honor your body, mind and spirit and take care of yourself in a loving and compassionate manner after your session.
After passing through the healing response, clients usually feel re-energized and lighter than before the session. Continued, regular sessions (especially at the beginning of treatment) are recommended for individuals that dealing with a lot of heavy or stuck energy.

What should I do after a Reiki session?
Afterwards, I suggest drinking lots of clean water and taking a bath with sea salt (not Epsom) to help eliminate any toxins that may have been released from your session.
Detoxing salt bath recipe: 2C sea salt, 2C baking soda, 1C Mule Team Borax.
Add all of the ingredients to a tub of warm water (you may add essential oils as well); relax and soak for 20-30 minutes. If you do not have access to a tub, fill a tall bucket with warm water and add ½C of the above ingredients mixed for a relaxing foot bath.
Everyone’s response to a Reiki treatment is different, so pay attention to and honor what your body is telling you. You may not feel much immediately after but notice changes, releases, subtle differences after a few days. There is no “normal” or one-size-fits-all response. There is no right or wrong way to process your Reiki experience.
